New Video Game Consoles

The holidays are approaching quickly, and this year that means a brand new generation of video game consoles! The PlayStation 4 was released last Friday, and tomorrow the Xbox One will be released. The Wii U turned one year old just this week, and the 3DS has some exciting games coming out for the holiday season. With this in mind, we wanted to update you about what the library has to offer in the way of games for new gaming systems, and what you need to know about what games work on which systems.

First off, we will have all the bases covered: we already have Wii U games, PlayStation 4 games are on their way to the library, and we will be ordering Xbox One games starting tomorrow. Feel free to leave recommendations and requests for our collections in the comments, but please keep in mind that we only carry games rated Early Childhood, Everyone, or Everyone 10+ in the children’s department.

Our full collection of video games will now feature games for: Wii, Wii U, DS, 3DS, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4.

With so many systems that have the same name, it can get a bit confusing with regards to which games work on which systems. Here’s the rundown:

  • The Xbox One and PlayStation 4 do not have backwards compatibility. This means:
    • You CANNOT play Xbox 360 game discs with the
      Xbox One.
    • You CANNOT play PlayStation 3 game discs with the PlayStation 4.

  • The Wii U DOES have backwards compatibility. You CAN play Wii game discs with the Wii U.
    • Please be aware: the original Wii DOES NOT play Wii U games. The Wii U is an ENTIRELY NEW console.

  • Like the Wii and Wii U, the DS and 3DS are entirely different systems. The 3DS DOES have backwards compatability.
    • You CAN play original DS game cartridges on the 3DS.
    • You CANNOT  play 3DS game cartridges on the original DS.
    • The 2DS is the same system as the 3DS, minus the 3D capabilities. It can play both DS and 3DS game cartridges.

And as always, remember that we are here to answer any and all questions!
