American Airpower Museum – The American Airpower Museum is dedicated to the preservation of the legacy of all Americans who have sacrificed themselves to defend our liberties and to educate a new generation regarding the courage, valor and heroism of our nation’s citizen soldiers by presenting the operational aircraft and armor in the museum’s collection and its related displays, exhibits and programs.

Children’s Museum of Manhattan – CMOM inspires children and families to learn about themselves and our culturally diverse world through a unique environment of interactive exhibitions and programs. CMOM’s programs and exhibits address the multiple ways children learn and help parents understand and support their children’s development. This approach is reflected throughout the Museum: in exhibitions like PlayWorks™—an entire floor devoted to pre-schoolers, in Gods, Myths and Mortals: Discover Ancient Greece—an introduction to art, science and literature; and in the Healthy Lifestyles programming developed with healthcare providers to encourage good nutrition and daily exercise.

Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery & Aquarium – The Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery is a non-profit educational center. Its mission is to operate as an environmental education center and public aquarium that continues to raise and stock trout. We are proud to have the largest living collection of New York State freshwater reptiles, fishes and amphibians. The Hatchery is a fun place for your family to spend an afternoon together. Visitors can tour our two aquarium buildings and eight outdoor ponds, feed the hungry trout, and try our “Catch & Keep” fishing. Special events, such as Herp Day and Turtle Hatch Day, offer the public an opportunity to learn more about the creatures that inhabit New York State’s natural environment.

Cold Spring Harbor Whaling Museum – The Cold Spring Harbor Whaling Museum has served three generations of Long Islanders, having opened its doors to the public in 1942. The Whaling Museum is the only facility on Long Island and in New York State open year-round which focuses primarily on the whaling history of the region. Its collection provides the community with a significant link to the understanding of one of Long Island’s earliest major industries- whaling. The collection was formed by the local community who recognized the need for a repository to preserve the region’s local maritime history and Cold Spring Harbor’s whaling past.

Cradle of Aviation Museum – Explore over 150,000 square feet featuring 75 air and spacecraft, from a hot air balloon to an actual Lunar Module. Learn about Long Island’s role in aviation history, and why the museum is called the Cradle of Aviation. The museum’s eight exhibit galleries are in chronological order and throughout the museum volunteer docents are there to share their aerospace experience. There are over 30 hands-on exhibits, a half-dozen cockpits to climb into and many short films throughout the exhibits.

Guggenheim Museum – An internationally renowned art museum and one of the most significant architectural icons of the 20th century, the Guggenheim Museum is at once a vital cultural center, an educational institution, and the heart of an international network of museums. Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum – The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum is dedicated to the exhibition and interpretation of history, science, and service as related to its home aboard the aircraft carrier Intrepid, a National Historic Landmark. As you explore the Museum you will be able to examine original artifacts, view historic video footage, and explore interactive exhibits. The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum is the only museum where visitors can experience a legendary aircraft carrier, the first space shuttle, the world’s fastest jets, and a Cold War-era submarine.  Welcoming more than one million visitors a year, the Museum is using history and technology to inspire and advance innovation by developing the next generation of leaders in science, technology, engineering, and math.

Long Island Children’s Museum
NOTE: The LICM will be closed for refurbishment September 1-12. Reservations are unavailable for those days.
The Long Island Children’s Museum is home to 14 hands-on, interactive exhibit galleries, a 145-seat state-of-the-art theater and three classroom-size learning studios. Indoor and outdoor gallery spaces are interdisciplinary, age-appropriate, and intergenerational, fostering both independent and cooperative exploration, and encouraging concept development and skills building. Long Island Children’s Museum invites visitors of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to explore freely, discover their passions, and appreciate the communities and world we share.

Long Island Museum of American Art, History, & Carriages – The Long Island Museum is dedicated to inspiring people of all ages with an understanding and enjoyment of American art, history and carriages as expressed through the heritage of Long Island and its diverse communities. The museum has been accredited by the American Association of Museums since 1973 for excellence in exhibitions, programs and collection care. The museum’s permanent collection numbers over 40,000 items dating from the late 1700s to the present, including American artifacts of everyday life, works of art and nearly 200 historic carriages.

Maritime Explorium – Families exploring the fun and interactive hands-on exhibits at the Maritime Explorium at Port Jefferson will enjoy the excitement of scientific discovery, develop a broadened cultural awareness and experience a sense of artistry while learning about Long Island’s rich and varied maritime heritage. Driven by the notion that learning is its own fun, the Maritime Explorium is tapping into the most current research on best practices in education to create exhibits and programs that offer kids the chance to find out, for themselves, just how much fun real learning is! The interactive three-dimensional exhibits are anchored in the historical, scientific and artistic dimensions of Long Island’s maritime heritage and the unique ecosystem of Long Island Sound.

Nassau County Museum of Art – Nassau County Museum of Art preserves, enhances, and interprets its collections for the people of Long Island, the State of New York and beyond. The museum is dedicated to fostering a deeper understanding of the arts, with particular emphasis on the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries; to enhancing and adding to its outdoor sculpture garden, to continuing to improve its historic gardens and to keeping an active schedule of exhibitions and educational programs for people of all ages and backgrounds.

Old Westbury Gardens – Old Westbury Gardens is the former home of John S. Phipps, his wife, Margarita Grace Phipps and their children. The magnificent Charles II-style mansion is nestled amid 200 acres of formal gardens, landscaped grounds, woodlands, ponds and lakes.  Westbury House is furnished with fine English antiques and decorative arts from the more than fifty years of the family’s residence. Westbury Gardens welcomes visitors of all ages for guided tours of Westbury House and Gardens, in-depth tours of the formal gardens, children’s programs and events, family programs, museum exhibits, and much more.

Suffolk County Vanderbilt Museum – The Suffolk County Vanderbilt Museum — a unique combination of mansion, marine and natural history museum, planetarium and park — is dedicated to the education and enjoyment of the people of Long Island and beyond. This mission shall be achieved through the thoughtful preservation, interpretation and enhancement of the Eagle’s Nest estate as an informal educational facility. Exhibition and program themes focus upon Long Island’s Gold Coast Era and upon William K. Vanderbilt II’s desire that his marine, natural history, and ethnographic collections promote appreciation and understanding of the marvelous diversity of life, other cultures, and scientific knowledge.

Walt Whitman Birthplace – The Walt Whitman Birthplace State Historic Site and Interpretive Center offers modern day visitors to Long Island the opportunity to step back in time and ultimately encounter the life and art of the most powerful poet in world literature, America’s own Walt Whitman. The historic Birthplace still stands peacefully on the same spot where it was built in West Hills, Huntington. The Birthplace and Interpretive Center offer guided tours, museum shop and bookstore, picnic facilities, auto-hiking tours of beautiful and historic West Hills, concerts, lectures, poetry readings and contest, a Poet-in-Residence program and special events. Visitors can delve deeply into Whitman’s life and poetry through a series of engaging exhibits that trace the poet’s development from his boyhood to his international prominence as one of our country’s greatest visionaries.
